An alternative to antibiotic therapy
# PERIODONTOLOGY
**Periodontitis is one of the most common diseases worldwide.** Its development can not only be induced by a lack of oral hygiene but also by a weakened immune system, metabolic diseases, and unhealthy habits such as smoking, alcohol or an unhealthy diet. Whether slightly chronic or aggressive, in the end, if not treated, sooner or later the tooth or the implant will have to be taken out. Since periodontitis manifests itself as an inflammation of the periodontium, it is often mistaken as a localised disease and not as a general disease. The catalyst is a so-called microbial biofilm, which contains pathogenic bacteria. They multiply and attack teeth and gums as a result. Pathogenic germs can also be found in the gums of healthy people, but are kept under control by the immune system and symbiotic microorganisms. A functioning immunological defence system, therefore, plays an essential role in preventing pathogenic germs from multiplying.
In addition to classic therapies such as improved dental care, dental prophylaxis and the surgical removal of inflammatory tissue, using DENTAL VITAL periodontium products offers a holistic, sustainable alternative to therapy with antibiotics. Killing all germs provides short to medium-term improvement, but cannot prevent a bacterial imbalance from occurring again in the affected person in the future, despite good oral hygiene. Periodontitis is also often linked to other diseases/predispositions because it goes hand in hand with an overall weakened immune system. Thus, what is needed is to strengthen the body’s own defences to achieve a lasting result. Both oral and systemic immune systems are specifically and effectively supported by the balanced preparations.
